Stockton Beach Dunes, Buggy Club trip, Feb-09 file = Stockton
This is an annual run by the Manx Dune Buggy club of Qld. The Stockton Beach dunes are famous
thruout Australia as one of the last "available" challenging beach runs, just north of Newcastle, NSW.
The Queenslanders made their way south, about 950 km, to reach the Stockton Beach Van Park by
mid-day Fri 20-Feb. We met up with a few local Newcastle buggy drivers on the beach, for a safety
briefing for those who had not done this trip before. We were warned to look out for the dune edges
as these are hard to see when the sun is high in the sky, and to use 6 to 8 psi in rear tyres.
There was a small fee of $10 for a 3 day beach pass, and it was advised to use sight flags on the
buggies. Now onto the beach, and the photos tell their story :-

The locals gave us a track to follow. You need a good run-up to make this dune.
See how hard it is to see the dune edge ! Go too slow, you don't make it, go too fast
and you get airborne at the crest.
